Introduction:
The VL53L7CH time-of-flight sensor features an ultra-wide 90° diagonal field of view and low power consumption, making it an ideal choice for AI applications. The compact Standardized Histogram (CNH) innovative data output is designed for AI applications that require multi-zone raw data from high-performance multi-zone ToF sensors.
The infrared signal measured in each zone is sent to the host through each bin of the histogram as raw data. Highly configurable, users can program the resolution of the VL53L7CH to 64 zones (8×8 areas). In addition to standard processed data from ToF sensors (distance measurement, signal level, reflectivity, etc.), all generated CNH data is transmitted to the host via I²C at a frequency of up to 30 Hz.
The VL53L7CH time-of-flight sensor features an innovative metal surface ODIF lens, providing an ultra-wide 90° diagonal field of view (60° x 60° square field of view). The integrated VCSEL emits 940 nm infrared light that is completely invisible, has obtained Level 1 certification, ensuring safety for the human eye.
The VL53L8CH time-of-flight sensor offers a diagonal field of view of up to 65°, enhancing performance under ambient light conditions, making it an ideal choice for AI applications. CNH data transforms STMicroelectronics’ time-of-flight ranging sensor into a versatile optical sensor, opening doors to endless possibilities for AI applications. Beyond standard ranging data, the CNH raw data sent to the host paves the way for various new applications, allowing us to go beyond simple distance measurement. Detection can now extend to solid materials (carpets, wood, glass, mirrors, etc.) as well as gas or liquid materials (water, oil, chemicals, etc.). This enables applications such as detecting the position and size of cups in coffee or beverage machines, allowing robots to perceive ground materials, and developing advanced shape, motion, or gesture recognition capabilities.
The VL53L8CH integrates a powerful new generation VCSEL and two advanced super-surface lenses. The integrated VCSEL emits 940 nm infrared light that is completely invisible, has obtained Level 1 certification, ensuring safety for the human eye.
The VL53L4CD, a new generation laser emitter, features an 18° field of view (FoV), enhancing performance under ambient light conditions with a ranging speed of up to 100Hz.
The VL53L4CD comes with an autonomous mode with programmable distance threshold, resulting in extremely low power consumption, making it well-suited for battery-powered devices.
Similar to all FlightSense technology-based time-of-flight (ToF) sensors from STMicroelectronics, the VL53L4CD can record absolute distance measurements regardless of the target’s color and reflectivity.
All STMicroelectronics ToF sensors integrate VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser), emitting completely invisible 940 nm infrared light, ensuring safety for the human eye (Level 1 certification).
The VL53L0X integrates an advanced Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) array and incorporates STMicroelectronics’ second-generation FlightSense™ patented technology.
Equipped with a 940 nm VCSEL emitter (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser), the VL53L0X emits light that is completely invisible to the human eye. Coupled with a built-in physical infrared filter, it extends the ranging distance, enhances immunity to ambient light, and demonstrates improved stability against optical crosstalk from cover glass.
