What is fertilizer and why do bonsais need it?

Fertilizer, often referred to as plant food, is a broad term for either a mixture of chemicals or naturally occurring matter that is used to enhance plants’ growth. You can add fertilizers to the soil in liquid, water-soluble, and granular forms. Liquid and water-soluble fertilizers get washed out of the bottom of your pot by the second or third watering, and your tree does not have enough time to absorb any; that is why you do not see trees and plants grow much when liquid fertilizer is used.
