In such circumstance, please connect the pipe to the sewage discharge or use a drain pan/vessel may to capture moisture.

The water line for this under sink water heater is for 1/2” NPT. Generally, the nut of the water pipes contains silicone sealing tabs for a tight connection without the use of Teflon tape.

Please connect correctly, otherwise it may leak from the connection.
